CLASSIFICATION OF MACAW PALM FRUITS FROM COLORIMETRIC PROPERTIES FOR DETERMINING THE HARVEST MOMENT REA
Costa,Anderson G.; Pinto,Francisco de A. de C.; Motoike,Sérgio Y.; Braga Júnior,Roberto A.; Gracia,Luis M. Navas.
ABSTRACT Macaw palm (Acrocomia aculeata) is a promising crop for biofuel production due to the high concentration of its fruit oil, but the harvest date is an issue to be better understood so it could be cultivated on an industrial scale. The aim of this study was to use the colorimetric properties of the macaw palm fruits to develop a neural network classifier to determine the ideal moment for harvesting, based on the oil content of the fruit mesocarp. During nine weeks of maturation were sampled 900 fruits of macaw palm fruits and the colorimetric properties of the RGB, HSI and CIELab color models were used to classify the fruits into immature and mature fruits. Kappa index and the overall accuracy values were used to access the classifier performance....

CLASSIFICATION OF ROBUSTA COFFEE FRUITS AT DIFFERENT MATURATION STAGES USING COLORIMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS REA
Costa,Anderson G.; Sousa,Daniela A. G. de; Paes,Juliana L.; Cunha,João P. B.; Oliveira,Marcus V. M. de.
ABSTRACT Coffee growers who produce the robusta species (Conilon) have sought to increase productivity and drink quality by improving production techniques. Artificial vision systems can assist in increasing the efficiency of operations associated with crop management. This study aimed to obtain colorimetric characteristics of robusta coffee fruits at different stages of maturity and use them for classifying fruits from digital images. A digital camera with spectral resolution in the visible was used to acquire images from 60 samples of coffee fruits at the green, cherry, and over-ripe stages of maturity. Colorimetric variables were extracted from the RGB, HIS, and L*a*b* color models and correlated with the physicochemical attributes of the fruits. The...

Measurement of volume of macaw palm fruit using traditional and the digital Moiré techniques AGRIAMBI
Costa,Anderson G.; Ribeiro,Elisângela; Braga,Roberto A.; Pinto,Francisco A. C..
ABSTRACT The macaw palm crop has been studied because of its bioenergy potential due to the high oil yield, which is linked to fruit maturity stage. Digital images have been adopted as a contactless way to obtain information about fruit surface area and volume, acting as a sensor for quality control and the classification of fruits, based on physical aspects during the maturation stage. The aim of this study was to estimate the volume of macaw palm fruits from digital models obtained by the Moiré technique using only one camera, associated with digital image-processing tools to unwarp the images, allowing the comparison with conventional methods. The volumes obtained by the Moiré technique were compared with those obtained by water displacement method...

Relationship between biospeckle laser technique and firmness of Acrocomia aculeata fruits AGRIAMBI
Costa,Anderson G.; Pinto,Francisco A. C.; Braga,Roberto A.; Motoike,Sergio Y.; Gracia,Luis M. N..
ABSTRACT Knowing the maturation of the Acrocomia aculeata (macaw palm) fruit is decisive for harvest to be performed when the fruit has a higher content and quality of oil. There are different approaches to monitor maturation and they can be classified as destructive and non-destructive. Variables obtained by optical instruments have been used to determine maturation stage. The present study evaluated the relationship between the biological activity measured by the optical technique of biospeckle laser and firmness, measured in the Acrocomia aculeata fruit pulp between the 41st and 61st week after flowering. The biological activity was quantified by biospeckle images, while the fruit pulp firmness was determined by digital penetrometer. Correlations...

Use of classifier to determine coffee harvest time by detachment force AGRIAMBI
Barros,Murilo M. de; Silva,Fábio M. da; Costa,Anderson G.; Ferraz,Gabriel A. e S.; Silva,Flávio C. da.
ABSTRACT Coffee quality is an essential aspect to increase its commercial value and for the Brazilian coffee business to remain prominent in the world market. Fruit maturity stage at harvest is an important factor that affects the quality and commercial value of the product. Therefore, the objective of this study was to develop a classifier using neural networks to distinguish green coffee fruits from mature coffee fruits, based on the detachment force. Fruit detachment force and the percentage value of the maturity stage were measured during a 75-day harvest window. Collections were carried out biweekly, resulting in five different moments within the harvest period. A classifier was developed using neural networks to distinguish green fruits from mature...
